EU Support to radiological and nuclear emergencies
INCLUDING is seeking to provide fully-fledged and comprehensive training in the RN security sector at the European level. Starting from the existing training resources of the partners in the consortium, in most cases developed in the framework of EC projects, INCLUDING aims to enhance the practical know-how and to boost a European sustainable training and development framework for practitioners in the RN Security sector.
TERRIFFIC holds final Public Workshop in France
What an excellent day we had this week at the TERRIFFIC final Public Workshop, kindly hosted at the Entente Valabre near Aix-en-Provence this week. The project coordinator, Arktis Radiation Detectors, and indeed all the project partners were proud to welcome the audience of CBRNe practitioners and experts, to the aerial firefighting college in the south of France.
Final Trial held at Chambéry, France 29-30 September
The Final Trial was held successfully in Chambéry in the Savoie region of France on 28-29 September. Hosted by SDIS73, fire officers were able to test and assess the complete TERRIFFIC System in an operational setting using a variety of real radiation sources.
Field Exercise in Slovakia on 07-08 September
The Field Exercise, part of the project’s trials campaign, was held in Malacky, Slovakia on 07-08 September. Project partners ISEMI and TLA organised the event with the support and active participation of police and fire officers from the Slovak and Czech Republics.

Next stage of the integration process with a face to face meeting in France
The further integration of the components that make up the TERRIFFIC system were held in Chambéry, France on the 29th and 30th March.

Feedback from the Semi-Public Workshop
A very successful Semi-Public Workshop was held virtually on the 11th December. We had over 40 participants, including CBRNe practitioners, the European Commission, colleagues from other research projects and our Advisory Boards.
Semi-Public Workshop
The second Semi-Public Workshop has been announced for 11th December. The ongoing restrictions that we are all facing caused by the Covid-19 pandemic means that this will be a virtual event, as are so many other webinars in 2020.
École Centrale de Lyon video
Great new infographic video from École Centrale de Lyon, explaining how the TERRIFFIC System works in practice. Sensors and detectors mounted on drones and robots are sent into the incident area to identify and measure the radiation source.

Integration and Testing
Successful integration and testing of the TERRIFFIC System was recently carried out at the offices of Arktis Radiation Detectors in Zurich.

The 13th CBRNe Protection Symposium: 24-26 September
The CBRNe Protection Symposium is aimed at professionals engaged in the CBRNe-protection field. Formerly known as the CBW Protection Symposium, it has now grown to include the areas of protection against Radiological, Nuclear and explosive warfare agents, along with the former Chemical and Biological warfare agents.
Emergency Services Show – 18/19 October
The Emergency Services Show is the UK’s leading first responder show and TERRIFFIC is delighted to have been invited to exhibit. Every year several thousand police, fire and ambulance personnel pass through the doors – over 7,500 last year – so as you can imagine, we are really looking forward to this fantastic opportunity to talk to many of them about the TERRIFFIC project.
Trial video released!
The video of the first Trial, which was held in Chambéry, France on the 9th – 11th April has now been released. You can watch it here.
The Trial, which involved firefighters from SDIS73 in the Savoie region and the TERRIFFIC technical team, was held to evaluate the various components in the project and provided extremely useful feedback for the technical team.
TERRIFFIC evaluates components during first Trial
An initial assessment of the existing technologies in the TERRIFFIC components was held on 9th – 11th April 2019 in Chambéry, France. The training and assessment was hosted by SDIS 73, the French fire service for the region. Our thanks to SDIS deputy director, Lt. Col Denis Giordan, for organising his team of firefighters, who contributed hugely to this milestone event for the TERRIFFIC project.

The 2019 event will be hosted by the Joint Security & Resilience Centre and will be attended by Senior UK Government Officials.
Romania takes on presidency of the Council of the European Union
In the context of Romania`s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the Informal Meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers will be held in Bucharest, on 6-8 February 2019. The works will be held at the Palace of the Parliament. The event will be chaired by the Romanian Minister of Internal Affairs, Carmen Dan, for the Home Affairs section and, respectively, by the Romanian Minister of Justice, Tudorel Toader, for the Justice Section.
TERRIFFIC feature published in CBNW magazine
CBNW magazine has just published an article about the TERRIFFIC project in its January issue. The article explains how the first hours of a response to a CBRNe incident, and especially a radiological event, are particularly critical. Responders are looking to contain the most severe consequences, stop the ongoing criminal or terrorist threat, save victims, manage the crime scene and organise an effective response.

Summary report of the first TERRIFFIC Public Workshop
The first TERRIFFIC Public Workshop was hosted by the Fédération Nationale des Sapeurs Pompiers Français (FNSPF), the French Fire Brigade National Federation. The welcome and opening address was given by Véronique Soubelet, FNSPF’s Technological & Natural Risks Commission moderator.
